Storyscapes by Emmy is an art project inspired by books and the sensory worlds they build around them.

A little about me when it comes to art and books...

(spoiler alert: It’s a whole love affair)

I love art about books.

I love books about art.

I love illustrating the world’s inside out favourite stories.

Sometimes I even stack my books up and paint them. Still-life vibes.

I love the quiet rituals I have when it comes to both art and reading… rain sounds in the background, soft music, a warm lamp (I wish I could say a cup of tea for the vibes, but honestly I’m all about diet dr pepper), but overall just that sense of being transported somewhere else for a while - I love it.

And I know many people are the same.

Now, excuse me while I climb up onto my high horse,

But in this era where images are being generated in seconds, I’m doing something slow.. Some might even say, stubbornly slow (eg: drawing every rain droplet one by one - if there's a prompt for that don’t you dare @ me).

I think books deserve that.

The worlds inside them were built carefully and obsessively over time. I’m no author, I couldn’t possibly imagine building the universes I’ve been lucky to enjoy.

So as an ode to these carefully crafted stories and the universes they paint, I’m bringing them to life in my own way, stroke by stroke.

The internet can be a lot. BookTok, my goodness. REDDIT wtf. I wanted to carve out a corner to share with others that is inspired by one of my favourite quotes:

“What art offers is space, a certain breathing room for the spirit”

The internet can make me feel like I'm taking shallow breaths from my throat, I want those deep breaths from the spirit (is this gross? The body part mentions started to feel gross but hopefully you’re following).
